Duck+Chick Make Kits!
Oakland sisters Brianna and Ashley combine their love for leather and passion for helping others through their company Duck+Chick. By selling their handmade leather goods, they can raise money for nonprofit organizations. When they first started, they donated to Heifer International, which provides flocks of ducks and chicks to families in need. During the COVID pandemic, they donated over 7,000 meals through No Kid Hungry and raised money for local organizations like the Oakland Zoo.
Brianna and Ashley enjoy working with leather, and they have always loved the look and smell of their grandmothers' leather purses. Leatherworking has become a fun hobby for the girls, and they continue to challenge themselves to expand their skill sets. They began making leather bracelets, key chains, and coasters, and now they are learning how to sew. They recently made their first leather purse and are excited to make more.

Our kits make great gifts and are a perfect way to build your leatherworking skills. Kits are great for ingenuitive, creative kids who love to make things with their own two hands. They will learn how to decipher directions, problem solve and use critical thinking—at the same time, having fun creating a sustainable project. Here we see Brianna and Ashley put their spin on two classic kits.
Ashley teaches us how to dye leather with their tissue paper technique!
Start by cutting up tissue paper into squares.
Next, place tissue paper onto leather, spraying as you go.
Allow time to dry!
Remove the tissue paper to reveal a unique creation!
Brianna wanted some guidance while making the Kodiak Dopp Kit, so Duck+Chick stopped by their local Tandy Leather for an open table event! Find a store near you.
Set the rivets before sewing!
Brianna was able to get one-on-one instructions on hand stitching from our Store Manager, Camille.
With the hands-on training Duck+Chick received from their local store. Brianna was able to finish the project from home!
