Gift Idea: Alyssa Crossbody With Painted In Blue
Tony Gonzalez, founder of Painted In Blue, made our Alyssa Crossbody Bag and embellished a bag charm with our Mini Shapes. Follow his step-by-step instructions below to remix your own Alyssa Crossbody Bag!
“This is the most fun I’ve had making a bag in the past few months. This kit may be labeled for beginners, but there’s so much room for experimentation on all levels." - Tony Gonzalez
Trace and cut out all your pieces without punching holes for the Chicago Screws. If you want to use a button stud to adjust strap length be sure to use a buttonhole punch!
If you're including a liner, cut interior pieces out slightly bigger than exteriors
Glue together the exterior and liner. Be sure to roll out the glue to prevent rippling!
Before gluing together the entire bag you can add some depth to the front flap by adding some padding / shaped insulation under the lining
After the glue has had time to set, you can trim the excess interior leather away
Now punch stitching holes, and stitch together the bag with waxed thread
Painted In Blue
Tony "josiesboy" Gonzalez is a full-time leathercrafter and visual artist originally from New York. He is the owner of Painted in Blue, a creative house that originated in 2017—specializing in pushing the boundaries of leather creativity.
His leatherworking journey began in late 2019, after buying his first hide from Tandy, and he started flourishing all through the quarantine of 2020. Starting a new craft in the middle of a global pandemic was tough, but he has often said that leatherworking has kept his mind at ease through the difficult times. Two years into his craft and residing in Philadelphia, he has two main goals. The first is to feed his creative spirit at all times, and the second is to inspire more young black and brown people to continue this tradition.
